Description

This 2 hour tour departs from the centre of town and heads straight out for “Splashdown” into Lake Okareka where we view abundant bird life and million dollar homes in an amphibious boat. The journey continues past the sacred Lake Rotokakahi (Green Lakes) onto Lake Tarawera where we view the magnificent volcanic domes of Mount Tarawera and hear stories of the devastating Tarawera eruption of 1886. Your return trip brings into view Te Wairoa (Buried Village) before splashing down into Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake), your third lake visit, before heading back into town. This tour is very history orientated covering Maori Migration to New Zealand (and then Rotorua), revealing the mystery of some of Rotorua’s more famous legends, and shedding light on the history of tourism in this fascinating geothermal and cultural centre.
